I have moved into a new position at my company. I was the Maintenance Supervisor for twenty five years, as my main job. I also held down the jobs of safety director, environmental director, security and phones. The last two kind of fell into the sphere of IT as they transitioned into Voip and ip cameras.
Nine to ten years ago I started helping out with setting up computers and running cable for the switches. I helped set up the servers, at the time they were just glorified desktops. But it was something that needed to be done and I was interested in it and so I volunteered to take on that role also.
Over the years I held down all four positions and put in a lot of hours. I had some really great help on the maintenance side of the job but the phones, security and IT work was pretty much all mine.
Last March I walked into the owners office and asked to be let go of my duties as Maint. Supervisor and they agreed. I quickly moved into my new roll as IT manager for my company. So I have been spending a lot of time learning about my new position along with trying to catch up with what I have been just letting thing go in the IT department.
My blog on this is the things I am working on and learning to do. I will try to make it interesting to those who are interested.
