How the Virus Affects Me

We first became aware of the Caronavirus around the end of January. It was something that was going on in China and we didn’t pay it to much attention. Not soon after the first reports we started hearing that doctors in China were posting that it was serious and spreading. President Trump suddenly put a travel ban on people coming from China.

People started taking a little more notice at that time. But still a lot of people didn’t. Even a lot of Governors and mayors told people not to worry about it to much. But now at the first of April most of the country is stay at home. Don’t go out unless you need to.

There was the run on the grocery stores and soon they had empty shelves. This lasted for about three weeks. But now it seems to be slowing down and when the people saw that the trucks were going to keep running they have stopped hoarding so much.

Jo still goes to work and I still go in two or three days a week. Nathan has not had to go to school sense spring break and right now they say he is out until the first of May. I think he may be out for the rest of this school year. He is doing his classes online but its not the same.

On the brighter side Russia and Saudi Arabia are in a oil war and are flooding the market with oil. Gas prices are down to a little over a buck fifty here in central Texas.

Still can’t find toilet paper but I have plenty of that. Can’t say my wife minds me being a prepper now. All this has kind of justified me stocking up all these years.

I have done a lot of work in the garden and around the house. The stock market has dropped by about a third. So I have selectively been looking for deals. Mostly stocks that pay a good dividend. We still go to the store but just get our usual thing. Jo keeps up with family and friends on facebook. For the most part we are still virus free and watching how we keep our hands washed and what we touch when we are out.

So except for our son not going to school not much has changed in our day to day lives.

Stay safe, pay attention to what is going on around you. Help your neighbors if needed and let your family know your thinking of them.

  1. We’re still under the shelter at home rule. But there is some talk of getting the nation back to work. The country can’t be down for much longer. We are already to far in debt. As for school it looks like there will be none for the rest of this school year ending in May.
