Now I buy a lot of equipment on ebay. I have spent a lot of money there. I have made some good deals and for the most part almost all my purchases have been good. Most of them! I have been burned a few time but the out come was I was reimbursed for my purchases. Today someone tried to swindle me again. I found a SYNOLOGY
DS1815+ Nas drive on ebay for a good deal for a used unit. Not great mind you but still a good deal. I read this description of the item.
SYNOLOGY DS1815+ 8-BAY Network Attached Storage, Used, Great Condition. Works perfectly. No Disks included. Shipped in original packaging, ethernet cable, and screws for disk installation. Cosmetically with a 1 inch scratch on left lower corner (see picture)
I was excited about getting this nas and setting it up and adding it to my home lab. Well it was not to be. I received it today and took it upstairs to set it up. I unboxed it and started to go over it and make sure it wasn’t damaged. Everything looked in good shape and so I went to put a hard drive in the first bay and noticed the clips that is suppose to hold the drive in place were missing. I took all the trays out and sure enough they were all missing. I thought to myself this is not going to be good. I put the patch cable into the unit and then put the electrical plug in. I plugged it into my UPS and pressed the power button. Nothing! I tried another outlet and the same result. I was depressed to say the least.
I sent a email to the seller and he replied that he sent screws to hold the drives in place and that is what he used. I replied that would work but the unit is a brick! It does not work. I haven’t heard back as of yet, four hours now. It looks like I will have to get Ebay involved in this. I have no doubt that I will get my money back one way or another but now I have to wait to get another unit untill this one is settled. I will keep you posted as to what happens.
In a update I did receive a refund without any problem whatsoever. I also had to return the hard drives that I bought for them. I did find a smaller NAS drive with four drive bays for it.
